Due to the remote location of Mono Lake and Bodie the price to gas is much higher than towns closer to Carson City NV. A quick calculation determined we should have more than enough gas to reach the town of Bridgeport from Mono Lake, with a stop at Bodie. Bodie is located 12 miles up a side road between Mono Lake and Bridgeport. The road to Bodie is a very winding/twisting secondary/dirt road. After visiting Bodie and returning to the main highway to Bridgeport Brad's car sputtered and stalled. We were able to coast the car to the intersection of the main road to Bridgeport. Before we could do any problem determination or call AAA road service (cell phones didn’t work here) a nice couple from Palm Springs stopped to offer help. We explained the problem could be lack of fuel. The couple offered to take Brad to Bridgeport so he could call AAA. Mary and I waited at the car and in about 45 minutes the couple from Palm Springs returned with Brad and a can of gas. Bridgeport didn’t have any AAA service and it would have taken hours for service from the nearest town. Brad put the gas in the car and it was ready to go. We then traveled to Bridgeport where we filled the gas tank and determined the car still had 3 gallons of gas when it stalled. It appears the winding/twisting road from Bodie had caused the gas in the tank to slash from one side to the other and cause air to enter the fuel line and thereby stall the car. We should have tried to restart the car first.
